Friendship (Daily Encouragement)

Brian Sullivan   -

A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” – Proverbs 18:24

From the very beginning, the Scriptures are clear that we people need one another — “it is not good for man to be alone” (Genesis 2:18). We were created for community – relationships, FRIENDSHIP. Like the various areas we have been looking at (money, emotions, words, family, etc.) there are relationships that bring life – true friendships and relationships that bring destruction.

A man of many companions may come to ruin”. There are many so called friendships that aren’t truly friendships – they are merely companions who “fail to come through in adversity”. Ultimately when challenges of life hit us, those “friends” are not there and our life can easily come to “ruin”. The word for ruin drives at “being shattered, being broken into pieces, to destroy…”

That is why Proverbs continual encourages to cultivate true friendships. To cultivate quality relationship amongst the wise who will be with you through thick and thin. They are closer than a brother as a friend is someone who chooses to stick with you, not just has to stick with you because they are family.

Join us this Sunday as we look at the importance and marks of a TRUE friend. We will ultimately see how Jesus Christ is the truest friend who loves us and “laid down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).
