Cultivate: Intercede | Invest | Invite

Brian Sullivan   -

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[b] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. – Matthew 28:19-20

In our call to cultivate, we get to participate in God’s plan to make disciples. We seek to live this out at CrossPointe through our mission to point our community to Jesus Christ. This entails both our local church community, as well as the communities in which we have influence.

We believe that mankind was created with dignity and worth, but sin has marred and tainted us, and all of creation needs to be re-created through Jesus. As a re-created community, we believe we are to be sent out into our communities, cities and world to join God’s mission of redeeming and renewing all things.

Participating in God’s mission takes place in all spheres of life: relationships, workplaces, neighborhoods, families, cities, schools, etc. The church is sent to bring the light of the gospel into the world around us. As a church, our hope is to encourage, train and equip people to do this so the hope of the gospel can take root and spread in our own lives, communities and cities.

While this can sound overwhelming and vague, practically we can embody this through loving people. A simple way to live this out is to INTERCEDE, INVEST, INVITE:

Intercede

  • Pray for three people in your area who disconnected from Jesus or His church
  • Pray the Holy Spirit would begin to work in their hearts convicting them of their need for a true Savior.
  • Pray for an opportunity to invest in their life.

Invest

  • Be intentional to spend consistent time with them
  • Ask questions to better understand their background and story (things they enjoy, things they struggle with, questions they have)
  • Serve them in simple ways

Invite

  • Invite them to share a meal with you or participate in an activity
  • Invite them to worship with you on Sunday or to join you with others from the church
  • Invite them to receive the grace and salvation of Jesus Christ (over time)

Who are a couple people in your area that you can begin to intentionally intercede, invest in and invite into your life (and ultimately pray that they know and follow Jesus)?
