Our Defender (Daily Encouragement)

Brian Sullivan   -

As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people, from this time forth and forevermore. – Psalm 125:2

Being surrounded by mountains would be a natural defense for a city and it’s people. The mountains would make it difficult for enemies to get to. The mountains provided protection. The Psalmist gives us this picture for how God protects those who trust in Him. He protects like the mountains – He is solid, dependable, certain and secure. Nothing gets to us that doesn’t go through Him and anything that gets to us won’t last forever – “it shall not rest on the land of the righteous” (vs. 3). God is our defender – both now and forevermore.

“He defends you. That means that nothing gets to you, nothing touches your life, without his sovereign permission. No sorrow, no sickness, no temptation penetrates the divine fortress unless God so wills it. And he never wills it without its being for your good.” (Rhett Dodson)

The LORD surrounds us giving us protection and security – even in the midst of the brokenness of this world. We can endure knowing that even the challenges we face will be used for our good and won’t last forever.
