Do Good To Us (Daily Encouragement)

Brian Sullivan   -

Do good, O LORD, to those who are good, and to those who are upright in their hearts! – Psalm 125:4a

What does it mean when the Psalms pray’s for the God to “do good” to those who trust in Him? From Rhett Dodson:

What does it mean to ask God to do good to these people? Does it mean that they get whatever they pray for? Or that, with God’s blessing, life will always be easy?

In light of the immediate context, God’s doing good means he will not lead us away under the judgment of the wicked. But to get the full force of what he is saying, we have to step back and look at the larger context of redemptive history.

…Paul tells us that ‘for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose’ (Romans 8:28). What is the good for which all things work together? That we be conformed to the image of his Son (Romans 8:29). So when we pray for God to do good to those who are good, he is already at work answering that prayer. Everything the Lord is doing in your life and in every Christian’s life is for this good—to make all believers like Jesus.

Every grace that you need from God so that you can be conformed to Christ’s image is available to you—everything that pertains to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). Here is our security: God will do us good. When life is unstable, when we feel tossed about and unsettled, we find peace and safety knowing that God uses everything to make us like the Lord Jesus.

It is good news, comforting and an encouragement to know that God is using all things for our good, which is to conform us into the image of Jesus. That brings rest, hope and purpose to our everyday lives.
