Wisdom – Just Get It! (Daily Encouragement)
“The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. Cherish her, and she will exalt you; embrace her and she will honor you.” – Proverbs 4:7-8
We have been diving into the book of Proverbs to help us “navigate the complexities of the world with the wisdom of God.” Two things I believe the majority can agree on:
- The world we live in and the issues we face are complex
- There is a lot of information and opinions on how to “navigate”
Wisdom is different than “information”. Wisdom is “applied knowledge”. Wisdom, like that in the book of Proverbs, is seeking to help you develop a set of practical skills for living well in God’s world. Just as when Solomon asked for one thing he asked for wisdom, Proverbs 4:7-8 reveal the one thing we should seek is wisdom. Tim Keller put it this way:
“The message is clear: Never, ever give up in your pursuit of wisdom. Do absolutely anything to get it, whatever it costs you. Why? Because it is more costly not to have it. You will make decisions that lead to one difficulty and disaster after another. So do whatever it takes…Wisdom comes not to the most fortunate or intelligent but to those most determined to find it.” (God’s Wisdom for Navigating Life, p. 28)
We need to ask “how determined are we to get wisdom”?
The wisdom of God says even if it cost you everything, just get it.
Tomorrow we will look at how we get wisdom.
