Troubled (Daily Encouragement Series)
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me….I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” – John 14:1, 6
Last night we started our Zoom Community Group – it was SO great to see, hear and interact with everyone. The topic of the video was “is there more to life than this?” They focused on the teaching of Jesus that He is the way, the truth, and the life.
Looking closer at that passage this morning, what leads into Jesus teaching that He is the way, the truth and the life is him telling His followers “Let not your heart be troubled.” (v/1). There are obviously MANY things that trouble our hearts and even more so these days.
To deal with a troubled heart, Jesus simply tells them “Believe in God; believe also in me” (v/1). We can NOT be troubled because our confidence is in God who is both sovereign over all things and good. When our trust is in Him and not ourselves or our circumstances, our hearts will find rest.
Jesus tells them (and us) that he is “going to prepare a place for you.” (v/2-4). We can NOT be troubled because we know the end, the ultimate destination is with Jesus: “I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also” (v/3).
Not only do we not have to be troubled because we know the destination, we don’t have to be troubled because there is purpose in the present. The teaching last night reminded us of what it means that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Jesus is the WAY of God – he brings meaning and purpose. Jesus is the TRUTH which gives us the “lens” by which we see God and the world. Jesus is the LIFE who came to deal with the things that spoil our lives and bring true fulfillment.
When you are troubled:
Look to Jesus who is God.
Look to Jesus who is preparing an eternal place for you with God.
Look to Jesus who shows the way, is the truth, and brings life.
Look to Jesus and BELIEVE.
