Passage: Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. – 1 Peter 1:13

Sections, Scripture References, Quotes:

In Advent we celebrate the beginning and ending of Christ’s victory over the powers of evil, and we call upon God to accomplish that victory in our own lives, to break in on us, to be born in our hearts, and to create us anew. -Ancient Future Worship

Waiting in Hope – 1 Peter 1:13

“Here’s the best way to say it: the Christmas story reminds us that hope will never be found if you look horizontally. True hope is found only when you look for it vertically. It’s not enough to say that God gives us hope. What the Christmas story declares to us is that God IS hope.” – Paul Tripp (Come Let us Adore Him)

Hope is a Gift: Receive It

Blessed be God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you. – 1 Peter 1:3-4

Remember that you were at that time separated from Christ…having no hope and without God in the world – Ephesians 2:12

Live into the Gift – Be Ready | Be Self-Controlled

Be Ready – “A mental resolve to live in such a way to manifest the “living hope” of the Christian” – Karen Jobe

Self – Controlled (has to do with holiness) What Holiness looks like:

Choose God’s way – It’s easy to bail on God at the first sign of trouble. We fret, we worry, we make new plans, we settle for shortcuts. We take matters into our own hands and soon feel the weight of anxiety and worry. But there is another way—the quiet way of rest and trust. God is sovereign -He runs the world – and He is in control. During this Advent journey, keep making the confident decision to choose God’s way. Louie Giglio

Light into darkness – Look for the darkness and head that way. Seek out injustice and right it. Speak into violence and make peace. – Louie Giglio

Prepare the way – “you will go on before the Lord to prepare they way for him, to give His people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins.” – Luke 1:76-77
